Purpose

Curt Cares, Inc. gratefully relies on the generosity of individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and community partners to help advance our mission of raising awareness about prostate cancer, promoting early detection, providing education, and supporting survivors, caregivers, and families.

This Gift Acceptance Policy establishes the principles under which Curt Cares may solicit, receive, review, accept, acknowledge, or decline charitable contributions. It is designed to protect the interests of our donors, volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and the organization while ensuring all gifts support our mission and comply with applicable laws and ethical fundraising standards.

Curt Cares, Inc. is an Oklahoma-based nonprofit organization recognized as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, providing education, and supporting individuals, caregivers, and families impacted by prostate cancer. Through advocacy, community partnerships, trusted resources, and compassionate support, Curt Cares is building healthier communities by empowering people with the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health.

Guiding Principles

Curt Cares is committed to ethical, transparent, and responsible fundraising practices.

When considering any contribution, we will be guided by the following principles:

  • Gifts must support the mission and charitable purposes of Curt Cares.

  • Donors will be treated with respect, honesty, and appreciation.

  • Curt Cares will safeguard donor information and respect donor privacy.

  • Donations will never influence the organization's mission, programs, or independent decision-making.

  • Curt Cares reserves the right to decline any contribution that is inconsistent with its mission, values, or legal obligations.

Gifts We Accept

Curt Cares may accept the following types of charitable contributions:

  • Cash

  • Personal or business checks

  • Credit and debit card donations

  • Electronic funds transfers (ACH)

  • Employer matching gifts

  • Donor-Advised Fund grants

  • Memorial and tribute gifts

  • In-kind donations of goods or professional services

  • Planned gifts and bequests (subject to Board review)

Additional forms of charitable contributions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In-Kind Donations

Curt Cares welcomes gifts of goods and professional services that directly support our programs, events, educational initiatives, or administrative needs.

Examples include:

  • Graphic design

  • Photography

  • Videography

  • Printing services

  • Event space

  • Office supplies

  • Marketing services

  • Technology equipment

  • Educational materials

Curt Cares reserves the right to determine whether an in-kind donation can be effectively utilized.

Gifts Requiring Additional Review

Certain gifts may require review by the Executive Director, Board of Directors, or legal counsel before acceptance.

These may include:

  • Real estate

  • Vehicles

  • Business interests

  • Securities

  • Valuable personal property

  • Gifts with significant restrictions

  • Gifts creating ongoing financial obligations

  • Gifts presenting legal or reputational concerns

Curt Cares may request additional documentation or independent appraisals before accepting such gifts.

Restricted Gifts

Curt Cares welcomes both unrestricted and restricted donations.

Restricted gifts will be accepted when the proposed restriction is consistent with the organization's charitable mission, current programs, and operational capabilities.

If circumstances change making the original restriction impossible or impractical to fulfill, Curt Cares will work with the donor whenever possible to determine an appropriate alternative use.

Gifts We Generally Do Not Accept

Curt Cares generally will not accept gifts that:

  • Conflict with our mission or values.

  • Require illegal or unethical activity.

  • Place unreasonable financial or administrative burdens on the organization.

  • Create unacceptable legal liability.

  • Include conditions that compromise the independence of Curt Cares.

  • Primarily benefit an individual rather than the public.

Curt Cares reserves the right to decline any proposed donation.

Donor Rights

Curt Cares believes every donor has the right to:

  • Be treated with respect and gratitude.

  • Know how their contributions support our mission.

  • Receive timely acknowledgment of charitable gifts.

  • Request anonymity when legally permissible.

  • Receive accurate financial information regarding the organization.

  • Have questions answered promptly and honestly.

Donor Responsibilities

Curt Cares encourages all donors to seek independent legal, financial, and tax advice before making significant charitable contributions.

Curt Cares does not provide legal, financial, or tax advice.

Donors are responsible for obtaining any necessary professional guidance related to charitable deductions or estate planning.

Gift Acknowledgment

Curt Cares will acknowledge all accepted charitable contributions in accordance with applicable IRS regulations.

Donation receipts will include the information required by federal law for charitable contributions.

When appropriate, donors may also be recognized publicly unless they request to remain anonymous.

Donor Privacy

Curt Cares values the trust of every donor.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share donor names or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Donor information is used solely for legitimate organizational purposes, including:

  • Processing donations

  • Providing receipts

  • Communicating organizational updates

  • Stewardship and donor recognition

  • Compliance with applicable laws

Anonymous Giving

Curt Cares respects the wishes of donors who prefer to remain anonymous.

Anonymous donations will be honored whenever legally and administratively feasible.

Right of Refusal

Curt Cares reserves the right to decline any gift that:

  • Conflicts with our mission.

  • Jeopardizes our legal or ethical obligations.

  • Creates excessive administrative costs.

  • Presents unacceptable legal, financial, or reputational risks.

  • Contains unreasonable restrictions.

  • Is determined by the Board of Directors to be inconsistent with the best interests of Curt Cares.

All decisions regarding gift acceptance are final.

Stewardship

Curt Cares is committed to being a responsible steward of every charitable contribution entrusted to us.

We will make every reasonable effort to ensure donations are used in a manner consistent with donor intent, organizational priorities, and our mission to educate, advocate, and support individuals and families impacted by prostate cancer.

Policy Review

This Gift Acceptance Policy will be reviewed periodically by the Board of Directors and updated as necessary to reflect changes in organizational operations, fundraising practices, or applicable laws.
