Muskogee Strong Community Health Series
Calling Our Men to Action!
May 17, 2025 • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center • Muskogee, Oklahoma
On May 17, 2025, CurtCares proudly planned, organized, and led the Muskogee Strong Community Health Series: Calling Our Men to Action!, a community-wide men's health initiative held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. As the primary organizer and driving force behind the event, CurtCares brought together healthcare professionals, community leaders, survivors, caregivers, advocates, and local organizations with one shared mission—to encourage men to take charge of their health while strengthening the families and communities that support them.
Recognizing the need for greater awareness and more open conversations surrounding prostate cancer and men's health, CurtCares designed the event to be welcoming, educational, and accessible to everyone. The afternoon featured trusted health information, opportunities to engage directly with healthcare professionals, educational resources, and meaningful discussions focused on prevention, early detection, and the importance of knowing your personal and family health history.
Throughout the event, attendees learned about prostate cancer risk factors, recommended screening guidelines, available local health resources, and practical steps they could take to advocate for their own health and the well-being of the men in their lives. Survivors shared their experiences, healthcare professionals answered questions, and community partners provided valuable information designed to remove barriers to care while encouraging individuals to seek timely screenings and medical guidance.
Hosting the event at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center reflected CurtCares' commitment to meeting people where they are. As one of Muskogee's most respected community gathering places, the center provided an ideal setting for bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to learn, connect, and support one another in an atmosphere built on trust, respect, and community partnership.
More than a single health event, Calling Our Men to Action! represented CurtCares' vision of creating lasting change through grassroots outreach, education, and collaboration. By leading the planning and execution of this initiative, CurtCares demonstrated its commitment to making life-saving health information accessible beyond hospitals and clinics and directly into neighborhoods where conversations can have the greatest impact.
The Muskogee Strong Community Health Series also strengthened relationships with local healthcare providers, community organizations, volunteers, and civic leaders who shared CurtCares' passion for improving health outcomes throughout Oklahoma. These partnerships reinforced the belief that meaningful progress happens when organizations work together in service of their communities.
Looking back, this event stands as one of CurtCares' foundational community initiatives and an important milestone in the organization's history. It embodied the values that continue to define CurtCares today—service, education, compassion, collaboration, and hope. Most importantly, it reminded everyone in attendance that informed communities, supportive families, and courageous conversations have the power to save lives, one person, one family, and one community at a time.
CurtCares is committed to turning lived experience into action — helping families start earlier conversations, seek trusted guidance, and take the next step toward awareness and early detection.
