Muskogee Strong Community Health Series

Women Leading the Way!

April 12, 2025 • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center • Muskogee, Oklahoma

On April 12, 2025, CurtCares proudly planned, organized, and led the Muskogee Strong Community Health Series: Women Leading the Way!, a community-wide health initiative designed to improve access to health education, preventive resources, and wellness information for underserved and at-risk populations throughout Muskogee and the surrounding region.

Hosted at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, the event reflected CurtCares' belief that healthier communities begin with education, collaboration, and removing barriers to care. By bringing healthcare providers, community organizations, volunteers, and local residents together under one roof, CurtCares created an inviting environment where individuals and families could learn, ask questions, and connect with trusted health resources close to home.

While the event celebrated the important role women play in promoting healthier families and communities, its mission extended well beyond women's health alone. Educational resources and conversations covered breast health, cervical health, prostate cancer awareness, colorectal cancer prevention, behavioral health, dental health, and community wellness, ensuring that every attendee could leave with practical knowledge and valuable local connections.

Throughout the afternoon, healthcare professionals and community partners engaged directly with attendees, providing educational materials, answering questions, and sharing information designed to encourage preventive care and earlier detection of serious health conditions. Families were encouraged to view wellness as a shared responsibility, recognizing that informed conversations at home often become the first step toward healthier lives.

As the primary organizer, CurtCares intentionally designed the event to meet people where they were. Rather than expecting community members to navigate complex healthcare systems alone, the organization brought trusted experts, educational resources, and community support directly into an accessible neighborhood setting. The result was a welcoming atmosphere that empowered attendees to become active participants in their own health while strengthening connections across the community.

The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration between nonprofit organizations, healthcare institutions, and local leaders working toward a common goal of improving health outcomes throughout Oklahoma. These partnerships demonstrated that lasting community impact is achieved when organizations combine their expertise, resources, and commitment to serving others.

Looking back, Women Leading the Way! represents one of the earliest milestones in CurtCares' ongoing mission to transform prostate cancer awareness into broader community health advocacy. It established the organization's commitment to delivering education through trusted relationships, community partnerships, and compassionate outreach—principles that continue to guide every CurtCares initiative today.

CurtCares is committed to turning lived experience into action — helping families start earlier conversations, seek trusted guidance, and take the next step toward awareness and early detection.
