Taking the Conversation to the Airwaves

On September 3, 2026, Curt Cares joined KUSH 1600 AM / 101.5 FM in Cushing, Oklahoma, for a special conversation during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Hosted by Molly Payne, the conversation featured Curtis “Curt” Murray Jr., Founder of Curt Cares, Inc., alongside Scott Haywood, Communications Coordinator for the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Together, they brought community advocacy, public health, and personal experience to the same table for an important conversation about prostate cancer, men's health, awareness, and the need to reach men before a health concern becomes a crisis.

Turning a Personal Journey Into Purpose

For Curt, the conversation was also an opportunity to share the story behind Curt Cares.

His own experience with prostate cancer helped transform a personal health journey into a larger mission: helping other men and families become more informed, more comfortable asking questions, and more willing to have conversations about their health.

That lived experience remains at the heart of Curt Cares. The goal isn't simply to provide information. It's to make that information personal, relatable, and easier to act on.

Creating Awareness Through Conversation

One of the biggest barriers in men's health can be the conversation itself.

Men may put off asking questions, avoid talking about screening, or simply not know where to begin. Curt Cares works to help change that by creating opportunities for honest conversations in familiar and trusted spaces.

The KUSH appearance provided exactly that kind of opportunity.

With Curt bringing the survivor and community-advocacy perspective and Scott bringing the public-health perspective of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, listeners were able to hear the importance of prostate cancer awareness from different but complementary points of view.

Meeting Men Where They Are

Important health conversations don't only happen in hospitals and doctor's offices.

They happen at churches, community events, barbershops, family gatherings, support groups, around kitchen tables—and through trusted local media.

Local radio has a unique ability to reach people in their own communities. By joining KUSH, Curt Cares was able to bring the prostate cancer conversation directly to listeners and potentially start conversations that continued long after the broadcast ended.

That approach reflects an important part of the Curt Cares mission: meet men where they are.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

The September 3 appearance came at the beginning of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, making the conversation especially timely.

Throughout September, communities and organizations across the country work to increase awareness of prostate cancer and encourage men to better understand their health and individual risk.

For Curt Cares, however, awareness isn't limited to one month.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month provides an important spotlight, but the work of educating, encouraging, and engaging men continues throughout the year.

Community + Public Health + Media

The KUSH conversation demonstrated what can happen when community advocacy, public health, and local media come together.

Molly Payne provided the platform and guided the conversation. Scott Haywood brought the public-health perspective of the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Curt brought the voice of a survivor and advocate who understands personally why these conversations matter.

Each brought something different to the table, but the purpose was shared: help more men and families become informed, start conversations, and take a more active role in their health.

From Awareness to Action

Awareness is important, but Curt Cares believes awareness should lead somewhere.

It can lead to a man learning more about prostate cancer.

It can lead to a conversation with his family.

It can lead to questions for his healthcare provider.

And sometimes, it can lead to a decision that changes—or even saves—a life.

That is why Curt Cares continues showing up wherever these conversations can happen.

Continuing the Conversation

Curt Cares, Inc. is grateful to Molly Payne and KUSH 1600 AM / 101.5 FM for creating space for this important conversation, and to Scott Haywood and the Oklahoma State Department of Health for helping bring a public-health perspective to the discussion.

Conversations like this demonstrate what is possible when community voices, public health, and local media come together around a shared purpose.

Curt Cares looks forward to opportunities to continue the conversation and explore future collaborations with Molly, Scott, KUSH, the Oklahoma State Department of Health, and others who share our commitment to reaching men and families with information that can make a difference.

This conversation may have started on the radio, but we hope it doesn't end there.

A Simple Ask Can Make a Big Difference

The KUSH appearance was more than a radio interview. It was another opportunity to start a conversation.

Ask your dad. Ask your brother. Ask your husband. Ask your friend.

Encourage the men you care about to learn about prostate cancer, understand their individual risk, and talk with their healthcare provider about what is appropriate for them.

Because sometimes the first step isn't complicated.

It starts with a conversation.

A simple ask can make a big difference.

CurtCares is committed to turning lived experience into action — helping families start earlier conversations, seek trusted guidance, and take the next step toward awareness and early detection.
